Race-based tenure policy is in contravention of Constitution’s equality clause

The race-based policy for office tenure contracts that the Eastern Cape MEC for Public Works, Babalo Madikizela, announced during his Department’s budget submission to the Eastern Cape Legislature is unconstitutional and a smokescreen to enrich politically affiliated cadres.

The FF Plus believes that preference may not be given to any one population group while the rest are excluded from economic opportunities. Excluding other races by awarding contracts based on race is in contravention of the equality clause of the Constitution.

The office spaces in question are situated in the Bisho District and will accommodate various departments. All races must be allowed to submit tenders for this.

The FF Plus is committed to fighting back against any form of discrimination based on race.
