R50k reward for information: Home invasion and rape, Qunu

Eastern Cape SAPS is offering a reward of up to R50 000 to any person who can provide the police with information which may lead to the arrest, successful prosecution and conviction of the suspect/s involved in the rape case that happened at Qunu administrative area on the 16 November 2019.

It is alleged that Thoko Tshangela, the rape survivor went to bed at about 21:00 and fell asleep. According to her, the lights were on, the doors were locked and windows closed except one door leading to her room when she went to sleep.

At midnight she alleged that she felt that there was a man on top of her and when she woke up, she realised that she was being raped. She pushed the suspect and managed to escape leaving the suspect behind.

She then reported the incident to her neighbour. When they returned with the neighbour, the suspect had already gone. It is also alleged that a sum of R500-00 was stolen during this incident. Intensive investigation was done but with fruitless results.

Informers were consulted but up to this present moment there is no information received.

Police are appealing to anyone with any information that can lead to the arrest, successful prosecution and conviction of the suspect/s behind this heinous crime to contact the Investigating Officers, Captain Zwelonke Isaac Nomanjila at 082 697 5920 or Lt Colonel Mfana Mqina at 079 496 4803.
