A 50-year-old suspect is appearing at the Queenstown Magistrates’ Court on 29 May 2020, after he was found in possession of 27 bags of dagga with an estimated street worth of R500 000.00 on Wednesday, 27 May 2020.
Queenstown SAPS reacted to intelligence-driven information about two suspected vehicles parked near one of the shopping malls in town. On arrival, police approached one of the drivers and further conducted a search where they recovered bags of dagga already loaded on both vehicles. The second driver managed to evade the arrest.
The suspect was arrested and charged for possession of dagga.
This arrest is the second biggest in the province within a week after 103 bags were intercepted by Bizana SAPS on 27 May 2020, en route to Cape Town via Durban. The three suspects appeared at Bizana Magistrates’ Court and case has been remanded to 04 June 2020 for a bail hearing.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga commended the members for their quick reaction which led to the arrest of the suspect and contribution to the proliferation of dagga in the province.
