R432k worth of abalone, illegal firearm recovered, Jansenville

Excellent work by Jansenville Crime Prevention members resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 34 and 39, and recover an illegal firearm, live rounds of ammunition and a large amount of abalone in Bridge Street, Jansenville on the morning of 6 August 2021, at 05:35.

It is alleged that at about 05:35, Jansenville Crime Prevention members were conducting Patrols, ensuring compliance to the Disaster Management Act Regulations, when they stopped two Nissan Almera sedans.

On approaching the two vehicles they notice a total of 39 black plastic bags which contained a large amount of abalone. Further search of the vehicles an illegal 9mm firearm and live rounds of ammunition was recovered from where it was hidden.

Estimated street value of the abalone is about R432 000.00.

The suspects are currently in police custody and will appear in Jansenville Magistrates’ court soon.

Jansenville Station Commander, Captain Pieter Erasmus applauded the excellent team effort. Captain Erasmus said that the police members must be operationally ready to act to any situation that may arise.
