SAPS member’s swift reaction and good communication between stations in different districts made the successful arrest of a suspect with suspected stolen property possible.

At about 16:55 on 30 August 2021 Steynsburg SAPS received information from Hofmeyr SAPS about a suspicious vehicle, maroon Dodge that already passed through town.

Members of Steynsburg then immediately rushed and about 10 km from Steynsburg noticed the suspicious vehicle. A chase commenced and the vehicle came to a standstill.

A 38-year-old suspect was arrested and a large quantity of computers including the screens, boxes, keyboards, lab tops and fax/copy machines with an estimated value of R250 000-00 were confiscated from his vehicle. He was not in a position to provide any proof of purchase.

It is alleged that he was from Gqeberha on his way to Bloemfontein.

A case of possession of suspected stolen property was opened and he will appear on 2 September 2021 at the Steynsburg Magistrates’ Court.

The acting District Commissioner Brigadier Rudolph Adolph commended the members on the swift reaction and the recovery of the stolen property.
