On the night of 17 February 2018, during a multidisciplinary operation between several units of the Eastern Cape and KZN DPCI, two abandoned trailers were seized with 82 bags of dagga.

Earlier in the evening, information was received of several vehicles that would be transporting dagga from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town through Fort Beaufort, however in the early hours of the morning two trailers were found abandoned each containing 38 and 44 bags of dagga respectively, with a street value of approximately R2 million. Moth balls were used to camouflage the smell.

No arrests have been made.

Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga, Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, applauded the team for the recovery. “Although no arrests have been made, an enquiry has been opened and forensic investigations will be undertaken”.
