It is alleged that on Friday 21 October 2022 around 08:30, police members who were on routine patrol foiled a robbery at Dutywa Post Office. A shootout ensued between members and at least three armed men.

Two suspects managed to escape, and one armed suspect who was trapped inside allegedly held nine employees at gunpoint.

A back-up arrived, and with a police negotiator, who successfully negotiated for the release of nine employees.

A 40-year-old suspect eventually surrender and was detained on charges of business robbery, kidnapping.

With an additional charge of unlicensed firearm. The seized firearm is to be sent for ballistic investigation.

The suspect is due to appear at Dutywa Magistrate Court on Monday (24/10).

Police are following all leads and are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact 082 301 7762.
