A 26-year-old Port Elizabeth man will appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of culpable homicide.
This follows the death of a four-year-old boy who was dragged to his death following a fatal hit-and-run accident in Port Elizabeth’s Northern Areas over the weekend.
Police Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the man was arrested on Sunday at his home in Windvogel.
“According to police information, at about 17:45 the child’s mother was getting into a taxi at the corner of Bergins and Bardiem Street [in Bloemendal] when a blue jumbo Golf, travelling at a high speed collided into the child,” said Naidu.
The child was dragged a few metres before the vehicle sped off without stopping.
According to eyewitnesses, there were two men and a woman in the car who were reportedly making their home from a funeral.
