The Port Elizabeth High Court has convicted a 30-year-old gang member from Arcadia of murder, Eastern Cape police said.

Calvin Busten, alias Kalahaan, was also found guilty of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the 27-year-old victim, Edward Christians, had been sitting with friends in a shack in Arcadia, Bethelsdorp, when the accused kicked down the door.

“The accused asked for Christians and fatally shot him three times. Busten was arrested by the Provincial Gang Investigation Unit on 2 February 2016 at his house in Jenniker Street, Bethelsdorp. He remained in custody until the finalisation of the case.”

Busten, a member of the G-Stars gang, will be sentenced on December 12.
