Police officers are the most perceptible face of our communities. While the general public may not know who the officers are on their beat, they are clearly recognisable by the uniforms.

Police officers are on duty 24 hours a day, whether it is a weekday, weekend or a holiday. They risk their lives on a daily basis protecting the communities they swore to serve. Therefore, it is important to recognise and reward outstanding performance, exceptional devotion and extraordinary courage to our men and women in blue.

On Wednesday, 21 June 2023, SAPS K9 Unit in Port Alfred held an awards ceremony to recognise the excellent work executed by the operational members.

Certificates for meritorious achievements were handed to members by the commander of the Unit, Capt Myburgh. He boasted outstanding performance by the members who have achieved successes, among others in the recovery and arrest of abalone poachers, drug dealers, illegal firearms etc.

The business, private security and farming sector who also attended, praised the partnership developed by the K9 unit members.

The Unit assist 7 police stations in the Port Alfred area.

All speakers echoed the same sentiments about the hard work and loyalty of the members who always go the extra mile in ensuring the safety of citizens in the Port Alfred area, even if it means working on their days off.

The Commander of the Unit, Capt Myburgh thanked the SAPS Management and the business sector for their support whenever it was needed. He also praised his members for their dedication and loyalty towards their vocation and urged them to continue to strive to become better police officials.
