Police are in a lookout searching for suspects who attacked police during early hours at about 01:30 on 21 November 2018. It is alleged that two police were on duty patrolling when they spotted a white Toyota bakkie with park lights on near one of the business shops in Cala.

On enquiring the occupants, instead of getting answers police were welcomed with bullets shot to their direction. During that process a group of men coming from inside the business shop also joined and shot at the police.

Another police member who was in the police van was shot and wounded on the right leg. The wounded member was taken to Queenstown Hospital for where he is receiving medical attention. He was reported to be in a stable condition.

A case of attack on police and burglary business was opened and under is investigation.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner-Lt General Liziwe condemned the attack on police and mobilized the community to fight that attack of on-duty officers as it is equivalent to an attack on the state.
