The actions and visible successes achieved during a special operation executed under Operation Sikhona by detective officers across the Nelson Mandela Bay metro is an indication that investigators are working hard to ensure that criminals are arrested and taken off the streets.

A multidisciplinary team of police officials from 13 stations, detectives from the NMB District Commissioner’s office and specialised units including the NMB Truck jacking unit, Uitenhage Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit and Uitenhage Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit were part of the operation which started at 22:00 on 28 April 2022 until 06:00 on 29 April 2022.

The focus of the operation was to search for and arrest suspects wanted on serious and violent cases.

A total of 46 suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from attempted murder, damage to infrastructure, housebreakings, animal cruelty, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of drugs as well as petty crimes.

All the arrested suspects will appear in their respective courts soon.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Detective Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga commended the efforts of the multidisciplinary team in ensuring that suspects do not escape the long arm of the law. ‘These successes is an indication to the community that the police in NMB District are serious on turning the tide against crime and criminals. Our officers both operational and investigative will be working hard to ensure that justice is served. Perpetrators of crime must know that their freedom is short lived as it will only be a matter of time before they are arrested,’ added Brig Ngubelanga.
