Gonubie Detectives are on the heels of the suspect who attacked and shot a police official at a local Post Office on 19 December 2020 at about 01:00.

It is alleged that an alarm call was received from the local Post Office and police immediately attended to the complaint. Upon patrolling the surroundings of the area, an unknown male was found hiding on the premises. The man claimed to be a security guard when questioned by the police however it was suspicious for the guard not to be dressed in a uniform and claiming to work for a false company.

In an attempt by the police to search this suspicious person, he drew a firearm and fired a shot injuring the police official. The suspect then fled on foot.

The police official was taken to hospital for medical assistance.

On the screening of the crime scene it was also discovered that the post office was burglarized however it remains unclear if any money was taken and that will form part of the investigation.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga condemned the attack on police. “A 72-hour activation plan has been implemented to track, trace and arrest the suspect. We cannot allow any person to attack the police while doing their work to reaffirm the authority of the State”, she added.
