Five suspects between the ages of 20 and 30 were arrested after they allegedly robbed an off duty police officer.

Items of clothing that he was wearing as well as his cellular phone and wallet were taken from him at knifepoint.

He was not injured. During his report to the local SAPS this morning members of the Port Alfred K9 unit were alerted. They swiftly responded and found all 5 suspects at a home in Nemato. All items were recovered as well as some of the cash that was taken.

The suspects will appear in the Port Alfred Magistrates’ Court on 10 July 2017. The Cluster Commander of Port Alfred, Brigadier Morgan Govender said “Our members need to be vigilant both whilst on and off duty. Attacks on our members remain a priority and the speedy arrest by our K9 unit of the perpetrators are commendable”.
