Excellent collaboration between various units in the SAPS (TRT, East London K9 Unit and Flying Squad, Mdantsane K9 Unit and Flying Squad, Crime Intelligence and SAPS Buffalo Flats detectives) arrested two suspects allegedly involved in an attempted cash-in-transit and armed robbery which took place on 26 February 2024.

Information received was that the suspects were on their way on the R72 driving in two vehicles, a Toyota Quantum and VW Polo. It was also alleged that they were going to commit another crime.

On 28 February 2024 at about 00:45, the vehicles were spotted at Kayser’s Beach turn off, Kidds Beach. As police tactically approached the vehicles, they were met with gunfire and some suspects ran into the thick bushes.

Police returned fire, and two suspects’ sustained injuries while one was arrested with no injuries. The three suspects, aged between 32 and 37, were apprehended and detained on charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Additional charges may be added at a later stage.

Two firearms and 17 rounds of ammunition and two cellphones were also recovered.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
