Immediate response by police to a business robbery in Cape Road resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of the stolen items.

On Monday, 29 October at about 13:00, two males were in a café in Cape Road and were seated at a table drinking cold drink when one of the males approached the 35 year old staff worker behind the cash register at gunpoint. The complainant and her assistant were ordered into the back room where they were tied up with tape.

The suspects emptied the cash register, took some of the items from the café, the complainant’s handbag and a cell phone and fled the scene.

A witness noticed the strange behaviour of one of the suspect’s and immediately contacted the police. Members from Mount Road Cluster OCC responded swiftly and proceeded to the scene. On their way to the scene, the members stopped a taxi in CJ Langenhoven Drive where both suspects were found and they were arrested. Stolen property recovered.

The firearm was a toy gun. They were detained on a charge of business robbery and are expected to appear in court soon.

Mount Road Cluster Commander Major General Thembisile Patekile applauded the members for their swift response and vigilance that have led to the suspects’ arrest. He also thanked the alert member of the community and urged businesses to be vigilant as we enter the festive season.
