Perpetrators of Sexual crimes attack defenceless victims whom they manipulate and brainwash. It is also a known fact that the perpetrators are often known to the victims and for the various reasons these victims live in silence whilst trying to deal with these horrific incidents.
During September 2012 Department of Social Development intervened after neighbours of the victim alerted them about the abuse of a 7 year old child who was also physically challenged. The victim who was repeatedly raped by her stepfather while her mother is away and at one stage she was also raped in the presence of her mother.
A case of rape was opened and the docket was assigned to Detective Constable Yongama Mkabile. Mkabile sacrificed many hours during investigation until the case was finalised.
The suspect was found guilty and was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment at Lady Frere Regional Court on Tuesday 13 August 2019.
