Immediate response to a complaint of shooting in Gelvandale resulted in a high speed chase which started in Stanford Road and ended in Ditchling Road in Algoa Park.

It is alleged that on Friday, 28 July 2018 at about 23:30, an 18 year old male and his friend who are affiliated to the Kakdalers gang were standing in front of a house in Chamois Street when they were approached by the suspect. The suspect asked the teenagers for something and when they said that they didn’t have anything, he took out a firearm and fired two shots at one of them.

The victim sustained bullet wounds to his chest and arm. His friend was not injured and the suspect ran away.

At the same time PE Flying Squad was responding to the incident when they spotted a suspicious black VW Golf with no registration plates speeding away towards Stanford Road. The members chased after the vehicle and managed to stop it in Algoa Park.

A 9mm pistol and ammunition was seized and 3 suspects aged 22,25 and 28 were arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, handling of a firearm without a valid permit/licence and possession of stolen property. The suspects are affiliated to the NTB gang. The VW Golf was also confiscated by police.

The firearm was positively stolen in Plettenberg in January 2017. Suspects will appear in court on Monday, 30 July 2018.

The Provincial Gang Investigation Unit is investigating both cases with a possible link to the arrested persons.
