The Provincial Gang Investigation Unit is on the hunt for a suspect who shot and injured 3 persons including a 3 year old boy.

It is alleged that on Thursday, 20 September 2018, at about 11:15, two victims, aged 19 and 22 were at the corners of Elk and Stag Streets in Helenvale when they were approached by the suspect. The suspect fired several shots at them. The victims ran down Stag Street with the suspect shooting after them.

A stray bullet hit a 3 year old boy who was playing in the street. The child was wounded in his cheek while the other two victims were wounded in the left leg, buttocks and hands respectively. The alleged gang affiliation of the two adult victims is Boetie Rus Boys and the suspect’s gang affiliation is unknown.

The Cluster Commander for Mount Road, Maj Gen Thembisile Patekile is calling out on the community to take a stand and work with the police in exposing these criminals.

“This is the second incident this week where two young children have been shot by stray bullets. The community cannot harbour these criminals as innocent victims as young as these are caught in the gang war. We are appealing to the community to come forward and report these criminals. You are the eyes and ears of the police and we urge you to assist us in ensuring that these criminals are arrested and sent to jail,’ added Maj Gen Patekile. An urgent meeting will be taking place at the Helenvale Resource Centre this afternoon between police management and the community.

The Provincial Gang Investigation Unit is investigating three cases of attempted murder. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lt Col Mike Grobler on 082 442 1825 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. All information supplied is strictly confidential.
