The Port Elizabeth Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is urgently seeking the community’s assistance in tracing the parents of a baby boy who was left at the SOS Children’s home in Schauderville.

According to police information, a couple went to the Children’s home on 14 February 2019, at about 09:30 and informed staff that they had found the child crying at the back of a house in Jacksonville. When asked for more details, the woman (suspected to be in her 30’s) shoved the baby into the arms of the staff member and the couple rushed out.

They also left two bags of the child’s clothing and baby bottles behind.

The child is now in a safe haven and a case of child abandonment is under investigation. The child is about 4 months old.

Police is appealing to anyone who may know recognise the child or his parents to urgently contact them – the investigating officer is D/Sgt Kelibone Mokhatla and her number is 071 475 2327 or their nearest police station.
