Operation 'Gijima Tsotsi' yields good successes, Graaff-Reinet

South African Police Service endeavours to reduce crime by focusing on crime generators like liquor were rewarded when liquor to the value of R7 000. 00 were confiscated in and around Graaff-Reinet. Station Commanders arrived on the morning of 20 September 2019, for Operation Gijima Tsotsi and were thoroughly briefed by the Provincial Head: Visible Policing, Brigadier Malibongwe Ntsabo.

The members started operating at 14:00 until 22:00 focusing at Graaff-Reinet CBD, Masizakhe and Kroonvale townships.

A total of 456 persons and 90 vehicles were searched and 14 liquor premises were visited and two were closed as they were unlicensed and liquor to the value of R 7 000. 00 was confiscated. Fines valued at R 6 800 were also issued.

Two suspects aged between 25 and 50 were arrested for dealing in drugs and possession of dagga. The suspects will appear in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrates’ Court on 23 September 2019.

Traffic fines to the value of R21 300-00 were also issued.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga commended the members for the successes achieved. “These multi-disciplinary stabilisation operations are focussed on the Province’s Top 30 stations and are also a build-up to a safer festive season. We thank the Station Commanders for supporting one another and for being part of the strategy to stabilise crime in the province. Through their efforts, we will reaffirm the authority of the State,” she added.
