Ongoing serious and violent crime in Bethelsdorp and Gelvandale

Detectives at SAPS Bethelsdorp and Gelvandale are searching for suspects in separate incidents that took place in the weekend.

In the first incident, at about 20:10 on 6 August 2021, it is alleged that a 25-year-old gang member was found at a house in Fitchard Street in Helenvale with two gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital prior to police arrival. Circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this stage and police are hunting a suspect from a rival gang.

A case of attempted murder is under investigation.

In the second incident, on Saturday 7 August 2021, at about 06:30 the victim aged 20 was reversing a vehicle out of the garage at a house in Mpuko Street in Timothy Valley when he noticed three males on the pavement. The victim was on his way to work. The victim got out of the car and an armed male shot him in his neck. The victim was rushed to hospital.

A case of attempted murder is being investigated.

In a separate incident, on Saturday, 7 August 2021 at about 03:40, Peter Winston Darries (46) and a friend were at a house in McManus Crescent when four gang members arrived. The victim and his friends were being chased by one of the gang members. Darries was later found at the corners of Booysen and Kobus Streets with stab wounds to his left ear and multiple stab wounds to his back. His friend managed to escape any injury.

No suspects were arrested as yet and a case of murder and attempted murder is under investigation.
