A police officer is never off duty irrespective of wherever he/she may be and when the call of duty is needed, the passion and loyalty for the safety of our citizens takes priority over everything else.

On Sunday, 2017-07-02 at about 10:00 Col Connie Van Niekerk, stationed at Mount Road Police Station and her husband, Capt Vernon Van Niekerk, a Detective at SAPS Humewood, were jogging on the beachfront in Port Elizabeth when they heard frantic screams from a lady behind them.

Instinctively both officers stopped and turned around and ran towards the woman who reported that a man tried to steal her cellular phone. Both officers saw the man run into nearby bushes and chased after him.

He was apprehended and detained for attempted robbery. Well done to police officers!
