On Wednesday 29th March 2017, an off duty police member, Constable Mthetheleli Lumkwana from Duncan Village SAPS, managed to come to the rescue of a women being robbed.
Whilst inside the taxi travelling to work, Cst Lumkwana noticed two (2) suspects attacking a female victim and robbing her at knife point. He then instructed the driver to pull over; he jumped out and gave chase.
With the assistance of other motorists he managed to apprehend both suspects. They were arrested on the spot and the member managed to recover the cell phone which was stolen from the victim.
A robbery case was opened at the Duncan Village Police Station and the suspects will appear in court soon.
The swift arrest by the member was commended by the Duncan Village Station Commander, Lt Colonel Mkhombiseni Mkhize. “I have the utmost respect for Constable Lumkwana. He reacted quickly and saved the day when he managed to arrest both suspects at the same time. This heroic act by the member shows that members of the Duncan Village SAPS are committed in working around the clock to fight crime and bringing those that are involved in criminal activities in this area to book” said Lt Col Mkhize.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lt General LE Ntshinga also commended the member on his act of bravery and said: “The member is an inspiration to us all through his commitment and dedication to our organisation.”
