An elert community member from Wells Estate heard baby cries coming from a dump site in Malinga Street, Wells Estate at about 09:00 this morning, 20 September 2018. On taking a closer look she discovered a newborn baby boy between rubbish, still alive and naked.

The baby is currently receiving medical attention at Wells Estate Clinic and will be transferred to Dora Nginza Hospital later.

The baby boy is also in urgent need of newborn warm clothing and diapers. Any good samaritan donations could be handed in at the Swartkops Police Station.

The 26 year old mother has been arrested and will be facing charges of attempted murder and child abandonment at the Motherwell Magistrates Court on 21 September 2018.
