A 24 year old shop owner was arrested last night, 14 August 2018, for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
This followed after the Motherwell Cluster Operational Command Centre received information about the firearm at the shop. At 20:30 police searched the shop in Avenue A, New Brighton and discovered a 9mm pistol with 8 rounds of ammunition hidden under one of the bread crates in the shop.
The shop owner was arrested and charged for the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He will appear before the New Brighton Magistrates Court on Thursday 16 August 2018.
The serial number filed off and the firearm will be sent for forensic and ballistic testing to determine the origin of the firearm as well as if it was used in any other crimes.
