Special operations conducted throughout Nelson Mandela Bay last night, 3 March 2023 produced positive results thus confining the space of criminals.

Firearms and drugs were confiscated and suspects arrested.

Most of the operations were co-ordinated and led by the Station Commanders with the assistance of the National Intervention Unit (NIU) in the hotspot areas in their respective precincts.

In Motherwell, during the execution of a search warrants at houses in Nkolo Street in NU9 and Mkoba Streets in NU 12, a gas pistol, ammunition and dagga were confiscated. A 32-year-old suspect was arrested for illegal possession of ammunition and possession of drugs.

A 30-year-old woman was also arrested at a house in Ncobese Street in NU11 for dealing and possession of drugs. A total of 30 small packets loose tik, 28 half mandrax tablets, 25 quarter mandrax tablets and 34 dagga rolls were seized.

Also, while SAPS Kwazakele members were patrolling, they noticed a suspicious male. When members stopped, the person started running. He was in possession of a firearm and as he ran, he dropped the firearm in an open space between houses in Meke Street and disappeared by jumping over the wall.

With the assistance of, Kwazakele Crime Prevention Unit, Gqeberha K9 members and Public Order Policing, the suspect was swiftly apprehended in a nearby house.

He was detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm.

Police in Kwanobuhle focussed their operations on taverns and shebeens. One person was charged for selling liquor without a licence in Kiva Street and his liquor, confiscated.

All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in their respective courts on Monday, 6 March 2023.
