A display of unity by all forces, integrated Government Departments at work and a clarion call to all citizens to join and play their part in fighting crime was a constant message that echoed during the National Launch of Safer Festive Season Operations 2018/2019 today, 1 November 2018.

Minister Cele delivering a keynote address said 128 suspects linked to cash in transit heists have been arrested and some of them were arrested before they even executed their plans for the heists.

He promised that criminals will be pushed back and won’t find space to trouble our people. “This will be possible if we all work together. All our police stations must have a box to submit names of criminals and police will open and follow through. The invitation is to fight all criminality and criminals,” suggested the Minister.

This year’s Safer Festive Season Operations launch began with an early train ride from Uitenhage to Port Elizabeth by Minister of Police, Mr Bheki Cele, National Commissioner General Khehla Sitole and senior SAPS management. The Minister’s entourage proceeded to Motherwell NU 2 taxi rank and also visited a roadblock on the N2 winding off at Motherwell NU 2 Stadium where the official was held.

We must obey and respect law as officers as we break law by commission and omission. Minister also appealed to police not to turn away women who come to report abuse. He also pleaded with men to stop abuse and abused to report crime immediately.

“We will work harder to ensure South African are and feel safe,” promised the Minister.

Minister also handed to families of deceased police members donations from Gift of Givers in the form of food parcels.
