Nanaga farm murder: FF Plus - 'Blame must be laid at the door of the ANC government'

The FF Plus is once again calling on rural communities in the Eastern Cape to step up their security measures and to remain vigilant at all times after the latest farm attack on the Buchner family near Nanaga in the Sarah Baartman District.

On Sunday evening at around half past six, Mr Werner Buchner, his wife, Estelle, and their son, Werner (Jnr), were attacked by what appears to be two or three perpetrators on their dairy farm, Boslaagte.

Mr Buchner was fatally wounded. Werner (Jnr), who had sustained gunshot wounds, and Estelle, who had both her arms broken, were rushed to the hospital.

The perpetrators fled the scene with two cell phones and an unknown amount of money and are still at large.

Mr Buchner’s passing has left a great void in the agricultural industry. Among other things, he served on the Clover dairy group’s board of directors.

The blame for farm attacks and murders like this one must be laid at the door of the ANC government seeing as this kind of crime can, to a large extent, be prevented if specialist units against farm attacks are established.

The FF Plus has always been serious about combatting farm attacks and demands that the rural safety plan, which makes provision for the appointment of additional staff members for the establishment of specialised rural units, must be fully implemented.

The people of rural communities are strongly encouraged to join their local neighbourhood and farm watches that have the common goal of ensuring the area’s safety and security in cooperation with the police.

The FF Plus will continue to stand up against farm attacks and general crime in the Eastern Cape and elsewhere in the country and will keep putting pressure on the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of residents, particularly in rural areas.

The FF Plus herewith expresses its deepest sympathy to the next of kin of Mr Buchner and wishes Estelle and Werner (Jnr) a speedy and full recovery.
