Gqeberha High court sentenced Dumile Clayton Ndzombana (34) to life imprisonment for murder, 15 years for house robbery and 8 years imprisonment for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

The case relates to the murder of Sergeant Kolela who was attached to Anti-Gang Unit in Gqeberha. On 12 August 2020, Sergeant Kolela and Warrant Officer Ngete noticed a suspicious looking vehicle that was involved in a house robbery in Kabega Park on the said date.

On approaching the vehicle, the suspects alighted from their vehicle and fled from the police members.

One of the suspects was armed and fired shots towards police members, fatally wounding Sergeant Kolela. The suspect was pursued and arrested before he could evade arrest after Warrant Officer Ngete asked for back up from Gqeberha National Prevention against Violent Crimes Unit (NPVC)

The murder was perpetrated at the corner of Mission Road and Stanford Road in Bethelsdorp, Gqeberha.

Ndzombane was remanded in custody for the whole trial period. He was convicted on 15 February 2022 hence his sentencing on 17 February 2022.

The Provincial Head Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya welcomed the sentence as it would pass a stern message to other criminals who are undermining the police role in the society. He further commended Gqeberha Serious Organised Crime Investigation team focusing on National Prevention against Violent Crimes Serious organised Crime Investigation team of the Hawks for the sterling job.
