Four men with ages between 32 and 46 were arrested during a multidisciplinary operation by NIU, Flying Squad, K9 Unit, NIU, Flying Squad, K9 Unit, Mthatha Vispol and Provincial Traffic at the R61 road near Kwangcingane on 2 February 2019.

The members were operating following information that there was a vehicle with its occupants attending a funeral of a man that was found dead in Ngcobo last week with gunshot wounds and his funeral was at Mpafane locality in Baziya.

During a vehicle checkpoint, four suspects in a Toyota Runx were found in possession of 3 × 9mm pistols with empty magazines and dagga contained in a black plastic bag.

Their motor vehicle was confiscated. All firearms will be sent for ballistic testing. They will be caused to appear before Mthatha Magistrates’ Court on 4 February 2019.

“I applaud each and every member involved in the operation. This is a clear message to criminals that we will stop proliferation of firearms in this Cluster” said the Acting Cluster Commander Brigadier Asogran Naidoo.
