Police have opened cases of murder and arson after a shooting and vehicle fire in Khayamnandi on the evening of Sunday, 22 March 2026.

Authorities responded to a complaint of a vehicle on fire in Mgibe Street at approximately 23:50. Upon arrival, officers found a Toyota Quantum taxi alight. During further investigation, the body of a 27-year-old man was discovered inside a house with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to preliminary reports, five suspects gained entry to the residence by posing as police officers before forcing the door open.

The deceased was identified as the son of a local taxi owner and worked as a driver. The burnt taxi belonged to his father. Three additional taxis and the deceased’s Volkswagen Polo were also damaged in the incident.

No arrests have been made. The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
