EASTERN CAPE — A swift police crackdown has led to multiple **Motherwell house robbery arrests** after investigators linked a gang of armed suspects to two separate residential break-ins over a four-day spree.

The successful operation was spearheaded by the Motherwell Cluster Trio Task Team, whose rapid follow-up interviews and evidence gathering ultimately tracked down the getaway vehicle and identified the culprits.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the crime spree began on the evening of Friday, 31 July 2026. At approximately 19:30, four armed men wearing surgical masks and balaclavas targeted a home on Mgwenyana Street in NU6, Motherwell.

Captain Janse van Rensburg noted that the suspects knocked on the front door and forced their way inside once a resident answered. The intruders threatened a woman and her daughter with firearms before escaping with an Apple iPhone SE valued at roughly R3,500. Fortunately, no shots were fired and no injuries were reported during the terrifying encounter.

The second incident occurred just days later on Monday, 3 August 2026, around 16:25. Captain Janse van Rensburg stated that three masked, armed suspects breached a residence on Ngadla Street in NU9, Motherwell, by slipping through an open kitchen door.

After holding the occupants at gunpoint, the robbers fled the scene with two Apple iPhone 11 cellphones, with a combined estimated value of R9,200. Authorities noted that this group escaped in a maroon Toyota Tazz, and similarly, no injuries or gunfire were reported.

The major breakthrough in the case came early the following morning. At approximately 06:00 on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, members of the Motherwell Cluster Trio Task Team began interviewing the victims to gather crucial intelligence. Their detective work quickly identified the maroon Toyota Tazz as the primary getaway car used in the robberies.

Investigators traced the vehicle to Mbabala Street in Ikamvelihle, where they arrested the driver. During questioning, the driver confessed that he had been hired simply to provide transportation. He admitted to remaining inside the car while the armed suspects entered the targeted homes, later noting that they returned to the vehicle carrying the stolen iPhones.

Following this confession, the task team arrested two male suspects, aged 25 and 27, who are believed to be the primary perpetrators linked to both house robberies. The maroon Toyota Tazz was seized and impounded to serve as evidence in the ongoing probe.

The two primary suspects are expected to appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court during the week to face formal charges of house robbery.

Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active. Law enforcement is continuing to pursue the remaining members of the gang, with additional arrests expected as the Trio Task Team works to dismantle the entire syndicate.
