A white VW Polo was hijacked in Songololo Street, NU11, Motherwell at 22:45. The female owner was gun pointed and her vehicle hijacked by two male suspects as she drove up into her home driveway.
At 00:10, only an hour after the hijacking, police in New Brighton found the vehicle driving in Stofile Street, New Brighton. Six male suspects with ages between 19 and 24 were arrested and charged with the possession of a stolen vehicle.
Police also confiscated a toy fire arm and pepper spray that was in the vehicle that could possibly be linked to the hijacking incident. The suspects could also face charges of the hijacking itself should further investigation link them to the crime.
The suspects will be appearing before the New Brighton Magistrates Court on 1 April 2019, to face the respective charges against them.
