Mdantsane Flying Squad Unit and community members of Nciba Locality, Ngquthu Village near Kei Bridge, Butterworth arrested a 27 year old man. It is alleged that a meter taxi owner received a call from an unknown man to fetch him at Vincent, East London on Friday, 14 June 2019 at about 03:53.

The man would be driven from Vincent to Amalinda. The owner of the meter taxi phoned his driver to go and fetch the person. When the driver was phoned by his girlfriend at about 06:00, he did not pick up his phone. The girlfriend phoned the owner of the meter taxi telling him that her boyfriend has not come back and did not pick his phone. The matter was reported to the police. Investigation led the police towards Butterworth.

The suspect was spotted along N2 road near Kei Bridge, Butterworth. When the suspect was stopped, it is alleged that he became vicious and fought with the police. Community members came to the rescue of the police and assisted in arresting the suspect.

The suspect was arrested on Friday, 14 June 2019 at about 08:00 near Nciba Locality, Ngquthu Village along Kei Cuttings, Butterworth. The body of the driver was found at the back seat of the meter taxi with stab wounds. The deceased is about 39 years old.

The suspect has been charged with murder, kidnapping and carjacking. The motive behind the murder is not known. It is not clear where the deceased was murdered. The suspect will appear before the Butterworth Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 18 June 2019.
