Mdantsane Cluster police arrested 40 suspects for various crimes over the weekend during operation Paseka aimed at creating a safe and secure environment for all. The Mdantsane policing cluster covers ten stations including people who live in Mdantsane, Cambridge, Inyibiba, Vulindlela, Berlin, Macleantown, Bluewater, Mooiplaas, Kei Mouth and Komga.

This intelligence driven operation was intensified by stop and searches, raiding alleged drug houses and users, tracking of wanted suspects in connection with outstanding cases and increasing police visibility in hotspots to defuse any plan aimed at the commission of crime around the area.

Eight suspects were arrested for possession of contravening protection order and three suspects were arrested for rape. Two suspects were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Three suspects were arrested for drug related cases. Twelve suspects were arrested for housebreaking and theft and malicious damage to property related cases to mention but a few.

The suspects aged between 23 and 46 years old respectively are due to appear in the Mdantsane, Komga, Kei Mouth and East London Magistrates’ Courts soon for various crimes.

Mdantsane Cluster Commander, Major General Henry Vos, had this to say, “I would like to commend my members for their commitment and dedication to keep communities safe”.

Some of these areas have a lot of rural areas and informal settlements.
