Mount Road Crime Prevention Unit arrested four suspects between 22 and 28 years old on charges of possession of suspected stolen property. At about 08:00, the members acted on information received about suspicious activity at an ATM in Kempston Road and Harrower Road.

On arrival at the filling station the members were informed that the suspects are in a silver VW Polo and had just left the garage. The vehicle was spotted and was pursued. In Harrower Road they pulled the vehicle over and the suspects were taken to the police station for further questioning.

Upon searching the suspects the members found cash and a bank card not belonging to any of them. The members made enquiries with regard to the bank card and established that the bank card was reported stolen and that R1000 and R4000 was withdrawn from the account of the complainant.

The complainant did open a case of theft at Ikamvelihle police station. The owner of the bank card alleged that he was attempting to withdraw money this morning when suspects distracted him and took his bank card and later withdrew R5000 from his bank account.

The detectives will probe a possible link to other similar cases within Port Elizabeth area. The suspects will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates’ Court on Monday 29 April 2019, on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

The community should be alert at all times when at the ATM and never accept help from strangers and to keep the pin to bank cards confidential.
