TOBACCO HEIST – Port Elizabeth police in the Eastern Cape arrested one suspect following a British American Tobacco heist which took place in Lorraine on Monday morning.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said that goods were being offloaded in Henry Botha Road when 2 suspects approached the scene.

Janse Van Rensburg said that a resident in the neighborhood noticed the commotion and confronted the men.

She said the resident then fired several shots and the suspects fled on foot with stock. Police could not immediately confirm the value of stock taken from the heist.

Janse Van Rensburg said a 31-year-old man drove off in a Mazda bakkie and was later arrested along William Moffet Express Way.

She said members from the K9 unit were about to confront the suspect when he reversed into their police vehicle.
