Tsomo Regional Magistrates’ Court sentenced a 29 year old man, Mthandazo Bambiso to undergo 18 years imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend. The accused was sentenced on Wednesday, 12 December 2018 at Tsomo Regional Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that the accused went to Ngqamakhwe Police Station to report that his girlfriend was murdered. Ngqamakhwe Police visited the scene at the home of the accused at Mzantsi Locality, Sokapase Village, Ngqamakhwe. Police became suspicious that the accused was not honest. He was questioned and the investigation led to his arrest.

Police found some blood stains on the underwear of the suspect. He finally confessed that he murdered his girlfriend as they were the only two people at the home of the accused. The motive behind the murder was jealousy. The deceased was originally from Cofimvaba. The deceased was identified as 21 year old Zanele Mayila.

Butterworth Cluster Commander Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu has welcomed the hefty sentence imposed to the accused. He is hoping that the sentence will send a strong message to other men not to abuse their partners and women in general.
