Butterworth Regional Magistrate Court sentenced 27 year old Siphe Hleziphondo to undergo ten (10) years imprisonment for the murder of his wife Qondiswa Siwundla aged 35. The accused was also sentenced to undergo five imprisonment for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm as he also stabbed a woman who witnessed the murder.

The murder was committed on 2 September 2017 at about 18:00 at Nqabara Village, Dutywa. Both the deceased and accused were at a tavern when the murder was committed. An alleged dispute over the husband chatting with other women led to the wife being stabbed multiple times. She died at the scene.

A woman who was a witness was also stabbed but managed to run away and alerted other people about the murder. In total the accused will undergo 15 years imprisonment.

The accused was sentenced on Monday 26 March 2018.
