Kei Bridge police near Butterworth have arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly being in possession of an unlicensed revolver with no ammunition, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.

The man was arrested at about 1am on Saturday at Eagles Nek locality, Manqulo village, near Kei Bridge, spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha said.

“The firearm was recovered following police intelligence that the suspect was in possession of [an] unlicensed firearm. The weapon will be sent for ballistic testing to establish if it was not used in the commission of crime around Butterworth.”

The man would appear in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm, Manatha said.
