Man arrested for Eastern Cape murder

A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death of a 48-year-old woman in Sisonke near Centane, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

“Centane police detectives worked around the clock and had a breakthrough when they arrested a 24-year-old man for the murder of the deceased. The suspect was arrested on Friday at Centane town. The firearm which was used in the murder is yet to be recovered,” said Captain Jackson Manatha.

The woman, identified as Zuzeka Nolundi Gxoyi, was shot at about 11pm on Thursday. “The deceased was with a male friend at their Sisonke township home, Centane, when a man kicked the door wide open. The suspect shot the deceased on her upper body. He then left the scene and was chased by the man who was with the deceased.”

The suspect fired at the man chasing him, who then gave up the chase, fearing for his life. Gxoyi was taken to Butterworth Hospital where she died. The arrested suspect would appear in the Centane Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a murder charge.
