A 27-year-old Kamesh man was arrested at the crime scene for the alleged killing of his 56-year-old mother on the night of 18 February 2021.
It is alleged that at about 21:00, police attended a complaint of assault at a house in the McCarthy informal settlement. A woman was found with an open wound to her head and she was declared dead on the scene.
The woman was allegedly repeatedly assaulted with a gas bottle. The son was arrested and will be taken for medical observation. At this stage, it is unclear what had triggered the atrocity.
The suspect will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates’ Court soon on a charge of murder.
