The acting District Commissioner Brigadier Rudolph Adolph commended the members of Maclear Crime Prevention Unit after they chased and managed to arrest two suspects after a business robbery in Maclear.

It is alleged that today at about 08:00 on the morning of 15 February 2021, a local business ‘Maclear Wholesalers’ in the main street was robbed by 4 suspects of which one was armed. One suspect threatened the owner with a firearm and tied his hands behind his back. Thereafter they left the shop with cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of money.

The case was reported to the SAPS and on further investigation the members from crime prevention immediately gave chase towards Tsolo. The green Toyota Tazz that was used to flee the scene was spotted and Sgt Mcasa passed the suspected vehicle and blocked the road. The suspects then took a turn off to St Augustines where they then stopped and jumped from the vehicle and started to shoot at the members.

The members fired back and one suspect was wounded in the leg and one suspect was arrested while the other two suspects ran away.

The two suspects aged 23 and 29 were arrested and on further investigation determined that they were from Qumbu and Tsolo.

They will appear in the Maclear Magistrate court on 16 February 2021 on the charges of business robbery and attempted murder.

All possible leads are being followed up in order to arrest the two outstanding suspects.
