The King Williamstown Cluster Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) Unit has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of Luyanda Siqola (29) by Stutterheim Regional Court on Friday, 27 July 2018.

The conviction comes after the suspect sexually assaulted a 65 year old female and robbed a 75 year old male at KwaZidenge Location outside Stutterheim on 25 June 2015 at about 20h00.

DNA testing was conducted and results came in on April 2016. The results linked the suspect to the crime, he then was charged for Rape and Robbery. Thorough investigation led the Investigating Officer to Keiskammahoek where he recovered the stolen firearm (pistol) with ammunition.

Siqola first appeared at Stutterheim Magistrate Court on 17 May 2016 and on the same day the case was transferred to Regional Court where he appeared several times. On 26 July 2018, Siqola was found guilty and was convicted. He was sentenced at Regional Court to undergo a life imprisonment for rape and fifteen years (15) for robbery on 27 July 2018.

The Unit Commander of King Williams Town Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS), Lieutenant Colonel Zitulele Mahlambeni welcomed the conviction and the sentence.

“I hope this will serve as a deterrent to perpetrators of crime,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mahlambeni. He furthermore commended the sterling investigative work by the Investigating Officer Sergeant Mkhuseli Falo who secured the harsh conviction and sentencing of the accused.
