Loyiso Dila (32) from Libode was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment on 12 March 2019, at Mthatha Regional Court.

On the 7 July 2017, in the evening at Nyandeni, the man forcefully took an 18 year old girl from her rented room as a learner to his home in the same locality where he assaulted her, threatened to kill her with his knife and repeatedly raped her. He released the victim the following morning.

Our committed investigating officer, who thoroughly investigated the case, worked around the clock in making that he convinces the court in order for the suspect to get a harsh sentence.

Today the Regional Court sentenced Loyiso Dila to 12 months for kidnapping and life imprisonment for rape.

The Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Mandlakhe Twala welcomed the sentencing and commended this member for displaying such dedication and commitment in protecting the rights of the vulnerable. “I welcome the sentencing and this is a lesson to others out there and we’re saying to them the SAPS is committed in protecting our women and children hence we will make sure that the law will take its course and we will make sure that you are locked and given a harsh sentence. It is only through thorough investigation that one can secure a harsh sentence like this one. I really salute this member for that.”
