Frustrated residents in parts of KwaNobuhle, Kariega, say they have been grappling with an inconsistent water supply for nearly six months, turning their daily lives into a “nightmare.” Many claim they have received no clear communication from the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality regarding the ongoing issue—an allegation the municipality denies.
Residents Struggle Amid Water Shortages
Community members report that taps often run dry for days, forcing them to rely on water tankers or travel long distances to access clean water. Some say the unreliable supply has disrupted households, schools, and businesses, with no resolution in sight.
“We don’t know when the water will come or go. It’s been months of suffering, and no one from the municipality has given us answers,” said one resident, who asked to remain anonymous.
Municipality Denies Claims of Poor Communication
The Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Municipality has disputed allegations that it failed to inform residents about the water challenges. In a brief response, municipal officials stated that updates had been provided but acknowledged ongoing infrastructure challenges affecting supply.
“We are aware of the water issues in certain areas and are working to address them. Claims of no communication are incorrect,” a municipal spokesperson said. However, residents insist that they have been left in the dark.
Calls for Urgent Intervention
Community leaders are demanding immediate action, calling for a transparent engagement between the municipality and affected residents. With no clear timeline for restoration, fears are growing that the crisis could worsen as demand increases.
As the standoff continues, KwaNobuhle residents remain desperate for a permanent solution to what they describe as an unbearable situation.
