Police officials from the Uitenhage Cluster continue to keep their community safe and have increased their visibility and intensified their crime prevention operations, during the weekend of 10 March 2019. The continuous seizure and confiscation of drugs remains a priority and members will continue with their actions to arrest suspects and rid communities from these illegal drugs.

Whilst members were busy conducting crime prevention duties in Ngamashe Street, Kwanobuhle on 10 March 2019, at 15:20, alert members spotted a male who turned around and started running away from police officers after the man saw the officers. The members gave chase and found 193 mandrax tablets, to the value of R9650-00 in his possession.

Members arrested the 33 year old male suspect and he will appear in the Kwanobuhle Magistrate’s Court on Monday 11 March 2019, on a charge of illegal possession of drugs.

The acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll praised the officers and emphasised that: “Police visibility will be enhanced and SAPS officials will conduct random stop and search operations and intelligence driven operations to effectively deal with all forms of crime”.

The South African Police Service wants to encourage the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime and they appeal to the community to provide valuable information that will lead to the confiscation of illegal firearms, drugs and the arrest of those involved.
