The New Law Regional Court in Gqeberha convicted and sentenced Witness Majoni (40) on Tuesday, 28 March 2023 for kidnapping a 15-year-old boy in Platini area, Kirkwood.
He was sentenced to 13 years direct imprisonment.
Majoni kidnapped his former girlfriend’s son on 8 August 2022 at gunpoint and demanded R20 000-00 ransom.
The incident was reported to the Kirkwood police and the matter was transferred to the Gqeberha based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team.
The child was later found in Addo.
The investigation team arrested Majoni on 10 August 2022 in Thohoyandou, Limpopo province. The court sentenced Majoni to five years for kidnapping, five years for extortion, two years for assault and three years for each of the two counts of pointing with a firearm. Sentences on assault and gunpointing will run concurrently.
