Police in Kidds Beach apprehended a 51-year-old man during routine patrols on Sunday, 15 June 2025, after uncovering a substantial illegal dagga plantation at a residence in Sunny South.

Upon investigation, officers determined that the suspect had been cultivating and harvesting dagga for distribution in the market. During questioning, the man admitted to growing and selling the illicit substance as a means of supporting his family.

Authorities seized approximately 7.6 kilograms of dagga with an estimated street value of R22,800. The suspect has been charged with possession of dagga exceeding the legal limit and dealing in the substance.

He is expected to appear before the East London Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 June 2025, to face the charges.
